A period film, set in the 1890s, in a small village called Champaner in Northern India.

Bhuvan (Aamir khan), a local farmer lives in Champaner along with others. Like other villagers in India, the villagers of Champaner, struggle to get a good harvest, as they depend on a good monsoon. To add to their troubles, the British Govt. demands a high land tax.

The British army captain, in command of Chamapner, is a dictator and a sadist. He challenges the locals to a cricket match, on the condition that if the villagers lose, then they would have to pay double the tax, and if , by chance, they win then the tax would be waived off.

Bhuvan takes on the challenge, along with Gauri, his lady love, (Gracy Singh) and begins preparing the villagers for the match. However, they are completely ignorant about the game of cricket. They are helped along the way by the British army caption's sister, who wants to see justice done.

Will the villagers win or lose, in the end.
