During shooting, a cricket match was organized between the British actors and their Indian counterparts. Brits won the match!

much of the cricketing gears used in the movie were actually dated back quite a far and were purchased from a London antic shop.

The actors used to throw the dust manually to create the dusty atmosphere during the cricket match scenes to bring more authenticity of a village backdrop...

When it came to history, the village , Champaner, was as part of princely state ruled by Hindu prince where the British stationed their troops and dictated internal policy, . In reality, princely India was autonomous and did not have any British interfearence in their internal affairs . The liberty with history allowed Ashutosh to show a scene where Russell displays British arrogance when he tells the Hindu prince that he will let his people off the taxes if the prince takes beef sandwiches.

In common with much of Bollywood, there is also social concern. A character called Kachra, which means dirt, and represents the village untouchable, plays a central role in the film. Bhuvan's recruitment of him in the cricket team is resented by other villagers who will not allow him near them, but they reluctantly agree, and his contribution to the Indian success in the cricket match is crucial .Thus detriment of caste-confict has also crept in the story.
