    Lara Dutta was born on 16th April, 1978 in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. Her father is retired Wing Commander L.K.Dutta and her mother Jennifer is British. She has two sisters, one of whom serves in the Indian Air Force. The Dutta family moved to Bangalore in 1981 where Lara completed high school from St. Francis Xavier Girl’s High School. She graduated in economics with a minor in communications from Bombay University. Following her win in Gladrags modelling competition, Lara became the first Indian representative at the Miss Intercontinental in 1997 which she went on to win. In 2000, Lara was crowned Miss Universe at Cyprus where her final interview score was the highest ever in the history of Miss Universe pageants. The Miss Universe success led to her appointment as a UNFPA Goodwill Ambassador in 2001.

    Lara signed up her first film Arasatchi (2002) with Arjun which was a Tamil film. But the movie got delayed and finally released only in 2004 with great success. But by then Lara has already made her Hindi film debut with the super-hit Andaz (2003) co-starring Akshay Kumar and Priyanka Chopra. After a successful start, Lara saw a spate of flops at the box-office. But she was noticed in Indra Kumar’s comedy hit Masti(2004) and the item number “Aisa Jadoo” from Khakee (2004).

    Lara’s flair for comedy was evident and her role of Anil Kapoor’s suspicious wife in No Entry (2005) went on to become the biggest hit of that year. He role in Kaal (2005) and Zinda (2006) were also appreciated. Lara’s fortunes turned for the good with her entry in Yash Raj Films with a guest appearance in Fanaa (2006). She ended the year with the super-hit comedy Bhagam Bhag(2006) with Akshay Kumar and Govinda. Though Jhoom Barabar Jhoom (2007) crashed at the box office, it took Lara into the A league of actresses. She ended 2007 with the biggest hit of her career Partner (2007) with Salman Khan and Govinda.

    Lara is currently shooting for Banda Yeh Bindaas Hai (Under Production) directed by Ravi Chopra which is a remake of My Cousin Vinny(1992) co-starring Govinda and Tabu.

    In 2004, Lara Dutta won the STAR Screen Award for Most Promising Female Newcomer for Andaz. For the same film, she shared the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut with her co-star from the same film Priyanka Chopra.

    Lara broke off with her boy friend of 8 years Kelly Dorjee in 2007.

    Lara was offered a role in The Matrix Reloaded (2003) and The Matrix Revolutions (2003), but turned the part down because she didn't like the script.
