Lalita Chattopadhay wa born in Kolkata on September 12th, 1941. Her nick name is Ranu. Her father’s name is Kalicharan Chattopadhay. She was admitted first to Diocessan School, when she was 14, she went to London for General Certificate of Educatiom. But she came back without completing the course. She passed school leaving exam in 1956 in the private and stood first. Then she passed IA from Lady Braboune College and BA in honors in philosophy from Presidency College.
She made her debut in the film “Ananya” produced by Kanan Debi when she was only eight iin the year 1949. Her first major film was “Bibhas” (1964)where she was paired with Uttam Kumar. But after that slowly and slowly she shifted herself to the second female lead. She was extremely good in this type of role which were eminent in films like “Moner Aalo” (1964), “Joy Jayanti” (1970), “Mem Saheb” (1972), “Haar Mana Haar” (1972) etc. She was associated with “Chaturanga” drama group. She learnt Rabindra sangeet from Suchitra Mitra. She knew dancing. She first married to director Dipak Bam. Her second husband was actor Pahari Bhattacharya. The marriage also was not successful. They were separated within a short period.
