There use to be a time when almost every Govinda starrer film was awaited from long time; people use to just go to cinema hall to catch some funny antics from this actor. However the film might be, but he use to still shine out in some scenes and make his audience happy. Slowly time changed and the actor vanished in thin air, thanks to ‘Partner’ he came back in the lime light. Just when we started expecting few more good quality films from him, he again got stuck with low budget films or movies which failed to capture his style and aura. In between there were many such films, which were lying in the cans for years and got released. All these films degraded the level of this fine comical actor. This week again he is back with another {self claimed} Comedy film “LOOT” along with Sunil Shetty, Javed Jaffery and many more actors. Let’s find out whether this will add to the long lost glory of Govinda? Or might just thicken up his degraded level?

“Loot” is story of two idiot thief’s Pandit {Govinda} & Akbar {Javed Jaffery} who always end up damaging the loot plan. One day they are assigned another task by their boss Batliwala {Dalip Tahir} to rob some jewels in Pattaya. They are joined by Builder {Sunil Shetty} and Wilson {Maha Akshay Chakraborty / Mimoh}. Together they set out to Pattaya and meet Tanya, who helps them in mapping the targeted place. Sadly they end up robbing the most wanted Don Lala {Mahesh Manjrekar} and robs his money and tapes. Before they could find out what went wrong, Tanya elopes with the money and tapes. With help of two street thief’s {Mika and Kim Sharma}, they trace Tanya but land up in her murder charges. What happens next is what the entire film about.

Story is simple and has been seen so many times in Priyadarshan or many more Con Based films. In such films the screenplay and comical timing between the actors shines above the script. Sadly out here it fails miserably. Out here all the actors were just doing their part without any soul or support of dialog writers. The one liner lacked the punch and the confusion scenes made us wonder what is going on instead of some good laughs. There are two superb scenes in the first half like Javed Jaffery telephonic conversation with Dalip Tahir and a scene where Javed, Govinda and Sunil give firing to Mimoh/Maha Akshay Chakraborty over his stupidity and dumbness. One did wish to see more such scenes in the second half, which was totally bland and boring at times. Wish the writers had showed the same talent they displayed in these scenes throughout the film; we would have another winner for Govinda and team. There are some terrible scenes like Mika Meet, Shoot out in Hotel, Mahesh Manjrekar eating in his restaurant, the climax and many more. The second half is so bad and boring that even if released in 80’s era of action cinema the movie would have been a big flop. Camera work and all production values are shoddy. Editing was weak especially in the second half.

Music is pretty average and does not deserve to be discussed.

Debutant Director Rajneesh Thakur tries very hard to make a film on lines of Priyadarshan and David Dhawan. But fails equally with lack of good script, dialogs and one liner, not to forget the wasted of some good actors in the film.

Govinda tried to charm us with his nonstop idiotic dialogs, but sadly barring one or two scenes – they failed miserably. Sunil Shetty was criminal wastage in this film. Mimoh/Maha Akshay Chakraborty looks like DUH! in the film, but shines in one scene. Javed Jaffery manages to make his mark in couple of scenes, but falls flat in the second half of the film. Mahesh Manjrekar, Prem Chopra, Ravi Kissan, Dalip Tahir, Razak Khan and many more fails to impress. Kim Sharma and Mika were horrible.

So bol meri ‘Filmi Khopdi’ is film mein kitna hai Dum ?

Koi Dum nahin hai, except for one or two super scenes. The movie looks dated, boring, b-grade and waste the talent of actors like Govinda and Javed Jaffery. There are certain Govinda films which failed on big screen, but were loved on T.V. Sadly this might not even find its place out there too. The movie is produced by Sunil Shetty’s banner and I guess he should had posted a ‘STATUTORY WARNING’ over the poster of this film that watching this movie might be injurious to ones common sense and the film lover inside you. Also on behalf of Public we should give another ‘STATUTORY WARNING’ to Govinda to stop doing such films or else it might be injurious to your filmi career.
