Film lovers are always excited and anxious when they see the first look or promo of any particular film. They try to judge and set their expectations from the film on the promo basis and grades out on its content level. Some promos are blockbuster right from the banner name where as some spell big flop label added to it, then there are some which hide everything for the main film followed by some which have a thin plot-line but has whole feel-good written to it , etc. In today’s times where the ticket rates are so high, a movie lover would like to place his money in right film, the promos have to be appealing right from day one, especially in case of small films. Luckily the promo of ‘Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana’ did manage to make its mark from day one, but low publicity and non-popular tracks add as big negative point for the film. So let’s find out whether this movie has its merits to make its viewer fall in love with it or at least enjoy it even after paying exorbitant ticket rates and add in list of feel good films.

‘Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana ‘is the story of Omi Khurana {Kunal Kapoor}, a London-living Punjabi who is under the financial debts of Shanty {Munish Mukhija}. In order to clear the debt, Omi returns to his native place in Punjab, consisting of Grandfather, Uncle, Aunt, Cousin and other relatives. The relatives are happy to see him back after a decade but all Omi wants is to get hold of some money and turn back to London. In between he is offered huge amount of money if he gets hold of his family secret recipe if Chicken Khurana. What happens next is what the entire film about.

Story is different and has its own style. The basic plot line is quite funny and entertaining. The movie contains some hilarious scenes like the whole Underwear scene, Kunal-Huma arguments, and People’s suggestions over Chicken Khurana’s recipe along with some touching moments like Kunal’s chat with his grandfather followed by the whole confession at the food table towards the finale. On the flip sid, the movie is pretty long and the theme is far stretched. Also, the sidetracks mellow down the flow of the film. There are many moments where the film just falls flat with nothing happening around it. Also one does not connect to sudden change of heart of Kunal Kapoor’s character. But thanks to the overall theme, you keep getting back in the film. Dialog is funny and the whole feel of North India works pretty well. Camera work is fine and in sync with the mood of the film. Editing as said earlier is weak and there are many unwanted moments which should’ve been omitted from the film. The movie should’ve been shorter by at least 15-20 mins.

Music by Amit Trivedi is very good in two tracks and pretty average in others. Though all songs have the north Indian flavor added to it. ‘'Kikli Kalerdi' is pretty enjoyable. ‘Gud Kha Ke’ is the best track and will stay with you for long. Background music is fine.

Debutant Director Sameer Sharma after assisting in some mention-worthy films like ‘Raincoat’ and ‘Dil To Pagal Hai’ tries to attempt a fresh comedy cum feel-good film. The attempt as a debutant is decent and one will certainly have some good enjoyable moments. But thanks to the weak-in-bits-and-stretches screenplay and some dragging moments, the movie will end up as an above average-decent entertainer, whereas it had full capability to be a classic entertainer. He adds some very good supporting cast members which are the film’s biggest strengths.

Kunal Kapoor is a decent actor and out here tries his level best to carryl the film on his shoulders, succeeding fairly with his charm and presence, but at times was a bit thanda too. Huma Qureshi looks sweet and has a good character to play, but at par with GOW. Vinod Nagpal even with so less dialogues, makes an impact. Rajesh Sharma is fantastic and one would hope to see more of him. Whenever the movie falls flat, he brings it back to life with his one-liners or screen presence. Rajendra Sethi and Dolly Ahluwalia are fine, but nothing great. Munish Mukhija tried to recreate his Udham Singh character with international touch, but does not have much concrete role.

So bol meri ‘Filmi Khopdi’ iss film mein kitna hai Dum?
Dum hain when It comes to the feel-good quotient. The characters, performances, dialogs, one liners, story plot line, etc are nice, simple and entertaining. The only flaw out here is the overstretched screenplay along with few dragging movie making this movie a bit overcooked, and yet pretty tasty.
