King Ballal Sen had a temple of the goddess Kali in his palace. On hearing a divine voice he gifted the statue of Ma Kali to his adopted daughter Lakshmi at her marriage with Vikram Singh. On the way thay were attacked by some dacoits and were compelled to hand over the idol in order to save themselves. The chief of the dacoits tried to bring the Kali idol to his house but he failed. Ultimately Vikram Singh established a temple at the forest where they had left it and the temple was known as Maa Kalyaneshwari Temple.
