Maach Misti & More rating: 6 out of 10(Aditya Chakrabarty wrote on 07 Jan 2013)

Maach Mishti & More? Does the name of the film suggest that the film is all about the Bong’s gastronomic affair with food where the entire film is going to be one culinary delight? Well, though the film has been promoted with much fanfare in that manner at restaurants and sweet shops in the past few months leading up to the release of the film, the film is something completely different. This Maach Mishti & More is essentially about the flavours of life, the flavours that we experience which we undergo in our journey called life.
The film is about the lives of Bengalis , the changes that have taken place in the society, the way the community has changed or how other communities look at us . It is about relationships, it is discovering yourself and it is also about revaluation. The patriarch of the family played by Soumitra Chatterjee has a son who has 3 sons, one of whom is married. The eldest(Souvik) is married and stays in the U.S, but returns to start a restaurant, the second son(Ronny) works in a company and the third son(Raju) is an aspiring actor. The entire family stays together in their ancestral house. The old man has an interesting take on life and is with the times. In fact, he even offers advice to a young girl on how to propose to her guy. Rahul, the eldest son gets in to an extra marital affair with June as there is a mental gap between him and his wife, the 2nd brother, Ronny breaks up and patches up from time to time with his Marwari girlfriend though finally he does finally find a soul mate in his college mate, Ishani. The youngest brother, Raju , an aspiring actor hooks up with his Marwari girl friend in the strangest circumstances. Raju and Ronny seem to be the most confused souls around. Yet every character rediscover themselves and people around them through every step they take in their lives. Ishani played by Raima is probably the only character who knows exactly what she is doing .

The music is nice while performance wise, the entire cast have done a good job. However Anubrata definitely stands out as Raju, the young aspiring actor. In every film of his he plays these young confused characters who are in the middle of nowhere and he portrays them so naturally with a comic touch as in this film. Also with his thin frame with literally ‘all bones’ structure, he is really a sight .The scene stealer of the film-Anubrata sitting in the back, side ways with his legs crossed with his arms around Neha’s waist while she rides the bike ! It is hilarious! Also Neha lifts him from the ground and takes him in to her arms in another scene !

The film is strictly an urban tale and a multiplex film , but has been shot in such a way that everyone can identify with it and the film has dollops of ‘Maach, Mishti & More’(meaning the flavours of life of course though eventually Rahul is shown to express interest in opening a restaurant called Maach Mishti & More when he goes back to U.S). The film has been produced by Mojo Productions (P) Ltd and presented by Tripod Entertainment (P) Ltd .
