Madan Puri was born in 1915. From his childhood, Madan Puri wanted to become a hindi film hero. In 1943, Madan Puri came to Bombay to make it big in hindi films.
After 3 years of struggle, Madan Puri got his first break in hindi films with Ahinsa (1946). Madan did many myhthological films in the early years of his career. With the coming of late 50s, Madan Puri started getting character roles in plenty.
In early 60s, Madan puri’s career bloomed to its fullest with good roles in big banner films like Rakhi (1962), Kashmir Ki Kali (1964), Waqt (1965) and Phool aur Paththar (1966). Madan Puri never got typecast and successfully carried off both villainous and character roles. His roles in Upkar (1967), Aankhen (1968), Aradhana (1969) and Ittefaq (1969) were also a few more of his memorable characters.
Madan Puri was easily one of the most popular and busy actors in the 70s. At one side, he did evilish roles like in Deewaar (1975) and Rafoo Chakkar (1975) and then he also played nice man in Dulhan wohi jo Piya mann bhaaye (1977), Akhiyon ke Jharokhe se (1978) and Noorie (1979) to perfection. In the 80s, Madan Puri’s no. of films started getting decreasing due to his hearlth problems. Although he made brief appreances in many a film right till 1985. On January 13, Madan Puri passed away due to heart attack.
He is the elder brother of famous actors Amrish Puri and Om Shiv Puri.
