Is it another half of the "Half Chocolate"? Yes. truly speaking, "Madly Bangali" is better half of the "Half Chocolate", Director Anjan Dutta’s previous film. "Madly Bangali" is another musical from the director-singer Anjan Dutta. But it is not only on-stage musical but also a back- stage musical. The audience is caught between them, eversdroppping, perhaps the greatest thrill of the first Tollywood’s rock-band film.
The story, in brief, deals with four boys -Pablo, Baaji, Neon and Benji are member of a rock band. They have suffered from many problems for their band. The problems are not only economical or social, but problem are of inner existance and sexual-political also. Actually there are two layer of difficulties. One is upper layer, where difficulties for fighting against goon or the drug-racket, search for rehearsal space etc and the inner layer is deals with inner existence of teenager boys or girls with their love-sex relationship.
Of course, there is a sub-plot, where two characters belong, one is Bobby uncle and other is Sam. Bobby uncle gave shelter to the band group. And with the arrival of Sam questioned about group working, the changes taking place in Kolkata. In the director, the viewer also rediscovers Kolkata in nostalgia mood. Yes,'Prem Kahani" is very much there. Joy and Tanya are the main inspiration of the rock-band group.
All performances are up to the mark. Supriya Devi, in a very short role, is excellent. Neel Dutta’s music is indeed an exciting part of the film.
