Zamindar Pratap Narayan Chowdhury is a miser. He takes advantage of illiterate villagers people and steals their money. He has a widow daughter- in- law and young son named Arindam. Arindam and his sister- in -law never supported their father’s activities. There lived a village girl named Jaba who was the daughter of Pratap Narayan’s driver. Jaba & Arindam loved each other. Pratap Narayan wanted that Arindam should marry his friend's daughter Julie. There was a teacher in the school at that village which was also sponsored by Pratapnarayan. The teacher was honest. One day to fulfil his desire Pratapnarayan asked to put fire on Jaba's house. But his daughter -in- law and the teacher saved them. Pratap Narayan then forced Jaba & her family out of the village. He also tried to create a rumour of an illicit relation between his daughter- in -law & the teacher as the teacher was found coming out of her room at night. Arindam in front of all villagers wanted to judge the fact. The fact come out was that teacher used to come to their house to teach his nephew which the boy confirmed. Now Arindam & his sister- in- law decided to leave Pratapnarayan & go to Kolkata. But they could not as Pratapnarayan has brought back Jaba & their family and announced Arindam’s marriage with Jaba.
