    Go for Maha - Nayaks

There are very few Hindi movies which have been adapted from Play’s. Few have excelled their values from Stage to Screen with more grandness and some have been just average or missed out the punch which was there on the stage. “Maharathi” is the latest to join the small group of such films inspired by Plays. I remember when this Play was being staged all my family members had watched it and had loved it, sadly I could not watch it at that time thanks to my studies. So the curiosity level for me was double high to find out how the movie is ? And when I came out I was satisfied.

“Maharathi” is story of Subhash Sharma [Paresh Rawal], who saves life of Yesteryears big time film maker Jay Singh Adenwala [Naseerudin Shah]. Jay Singh appoints Subhash as his Driver, which is not approved by his Wife Mallika [Neha Dhupia]. Jay Singh and Mallika keeps fighting with each other, thus leading Jay Singh to be an Alcoholic. Once Jay Singh gets an Attack and demands for his Inhaler from Mallika, she on other hand throws it away from the window, which is picked by Subhash and thus he saves Jay Singhs live. This leads to a deadly plan plotted by Jay Singh {Spoiler Alert} where he kills himself and leaves a situation where Mallika and Subhash needs to make it look like a Murder. Thus starting the chain of events in the Adenwala mansion leading to unexpected destination.

Story is good, but it’s the screenplay which lifts the film. Pace of the film is good, especially in the second half. Camera work is average as it’s treated on the Play’s type of treatment. Good amount of lighting effects was required to make this film slicker. Background Music is good and goes well with the film.

Shivan Nair’s Direction is quite different than his last film. He handles the Thriller with ease but could have done better. There are no unnecessary scenes in the film which can hamper the pace and slickness of the film. He has directed this crime thriller in its own and different style.

This film belongs to the lead actors who are one of the finest in our industry. Naseerudin Shah in his small role portrays the role of Yesteryear’s director with grace. Om Puri and Tara Sharma are good in their small roles. Boman Irani and Neha Dhupia have added another feather to their cap. As for Paresh Rawal it was great to see him this year doing non-comedy films like Mumbai Meri Jaan and Maharathi. After long time one will enjoy this actor set loose in this film to portray his acting skills.

So Bol Meri “Filmi Khopdi” is film mein kitna hain dum?

Dum hain, kaafi dum hain. Along with a good Crime thriller it’s the Greatness of this Maha Actors which makes this film extraordinary. Go for it.
