Manabendra was born in Kolkata on 11th August, 1949. Manabendra Mukhopadhay’s father’s name was Atulchandra Mukhopadhay. He was a good student as well as a good singer from his childhood. He got a talent for classical music.
He released his two records name’Phire Dekho Na’ and ‘Janina Tumi Kothay’ in association with HMV. The lyrics were written by Sidheswar Mukhopadhay. Manabendra Mukhopadhay made his first playback singing in the film called ‘Nabajanma’ was released in 1956. He had composed his first music for the film named ‘Champdangar Bou’ was released in 1950. The total number of music composed by him is twenty eight. Manabendra Mukhopadhay was a famous Nazrul Geeti singer too. Manabendra Mukhopadhay died on 19th January 1992. He was a famous singer. He was very popular for Nazrul Giti, Adhunik, Semi Classical and Classical songs. He has recorded for HMV also. He sang and music directed many songs. He sang for more than 50 films. His Mahsasur Mardini was also a hit. He acted in a comedy film “Sare Chuattor” in the year 1953. He passed away in the year 19 January, 1992. His daughter Mantu is also a singer.
