Mandira Bedi hails from Mumbai, but traces her ancestral roots to Fazilka, a town in Punjab. She completed her schooling from Mumbai's Cathedral and John Connon School. Mandira Bedi is married to Indian movie director Raj Kaushal and lives in Bandra, Mumbai.

Mandira Bedi has donned many caps in her career, that of model, television presenter, and an actress in Hindi films. She shot to fame in her early twenties, when she essayed with ease the lead role in the 1994 television serial Shanti, aired on Doordarshan.

After her star-making turn in Shanti, appeared in a supporting role in the 1995 film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. She also played the main villainess, in the popular Indian soap Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi.

Sony Television offered her the job of compering 'Extra Innnings', a show presenting the Cricket World Cup along with Charu Sharma. Her appearance in a wide array of designer Sarees glamorized the rather staid male-dominated cricket world which eventually led to a rise in viewer-ship.

She hosted the popular reality show called Fame Gurukul, a show called Deal Ya No Deal and performing hosting duties on the musical reality show Jo Jeeta Wohi Super Star, aired on STAR One.

Mandira has been controversy's favourite child. She received brickbats for her criticism of the Bangladesh national cricket team following their win against India national cricket team in the 2007 Cricket World Cup group stages. Again, In an episode of the program Extraa Innings, she wore a saree sporting flags of various nations in which the Indian tricolour was seen at the bottom of the saree, near her feet. On the grounds of having shown disrespect to the Indian national flag, a complaint was filed against her. She was also seen wearing on her back a tattoo of Ik Onkar, the Sikh symbol of unity of God, which led to a furious outpouring from the Sikh community.

However, despite all these, she has remained fiery in her spirit and embodies a live as you please policy.
