    Manoj Mitra is one of the most well known theatre personalities who has made his presence felt even in Bengali Silver Screen. Manoj Mitra was born on 22nd December, 1938. In 1960, he passed Master of Arts. He had been a teacher in New Alipore College for a long time. He also worked as a professor of Drama and plays in Rabindra Bharati University.But his love for acting superseded that of any other profession.

    Manoj Mitra is an active theatre and yatra personality whose performances are enjoyed by people of all ages. His famous play “Bancharamer Bagan” was made as a film by Director Tapan Sinha. He acted in the lead role in this movie which was released in 1980. He is involved with Sundaram theatre group and has done several plays and dramas. He is still a distinguished figure in the world of Bengali Theatre. He has even worked in a negative role in many movies. Not only that, his work has been appreciated even abroad. Parabaas , a hilarious Bengali play by Manoj Mitra also earned huge fame. His noteworthy films are Satru (1984), Kenaram becharam (1986), Antardhan (1992), Wheel Chair (1994)etc. As he has seen the world of theatre very closely, thatled him to write the book “ The Theatre of Conscience” published by Seagull Books Pvt Ltd. He has been honoured by various cultural organizations.
