I clearly remember when I had started hearing music of Gulzar’s ‘Maachis’ I was in love with the music right from the first song. It was that time when I came to know about Vishal Bharadwaj. Later I started following him and he was among the list of my preferred music directors. I even heard his earlier works followed by Television work leading to his directed films like ‘Makdee’, ‘Maqbool’ {which till date is his best} & ‘Omkara’. After watching ‘Maqbool’ & ‘Omkara’ there were no words left for this ace director. But with films like ‘Kaminey’, ‘Blue Umbrella’ & ‘Saat ... » read more

Well after a long time, had an opportunity to see a lousy movie. Neither the story nor the dialogues were clear. It is not that I don't understand Haryanvi, but when the cast spoke, it was incomprehensible. A landless farmer's son becomes a driver but studies in Delhi, speaks fluent English with an accent. Have you come across a pilot who knows how to take off but not how to land?

Strange enough, there were no women folk in the village. It was a male only village and one transavite. At least I did not notice.

Anushka cannot act, her tears were clear glycerin ... » read more

Rowdy Reviewer Matru Ke Bijlee Ka Mandola MBKM- Excellent Movie , Well Done Gulabo- Watch it whole heartedly

Rajdhani Express – 120 Kms per hour , Pankaj Kapur 90 words per minute with tons liquor in it.

Mover over Khiladis and Sons of Sardars , here comes Gulabo from Matru Ke Bijlee Ka Mandola.
... The movie has one of the best openings for a 3 hour movie and I was bowled over by how a simple rustic movie can be made with no item numbers, flying cars, or mindless action. How ever there was a flying plane – Cessna 210 but I read some where that they ... » read more

MATRU KEE BIJLI KA MANDOLA: TUSSLE OVER LAND WITH

The opening shot of the film in MATRU KI BIJLI KA MANDOLA indeed sets the tone for the film, the display of raw power that dominates the countryside, more so in Haryana, where one can just bulldoze through the liquor vend, as it was done by Pankaj Kapur and Imran Khan to do what one wants to do, democracy be damned. MATRU KEE BIJLI KA MANDOLA coming at a time when the dubious land deals in Haryana have hit the national news indeed is a stark portrayal of how the farmers continue to be cheated out of their lands in one way or the other and how the system which is supposed ... » read more

Expectations run high as this movie has been directed, co-produced, written and music given by Vishal Bhardwaj. Make no mistakes, he is the man behind few of the best movies in the recent past including - Ishqiya, 7 Khoon Maaf, Kaminey, Omkara and Maqbool just to name a few.

Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola (MKBKM) is a hindi adaptation of a German play with exactly the same story - Mr Puntila and his Man Matti. The movie has a run time of 2 hours and 30 minutes and frankly the first 20 minutes I was having problem in understanding the language and the plot! True, ... » read more

Matru ki Bijlee ka Mandola is a sattire that reveals the atrocities of the Rulers - the Politicians - the Powerful - the System. It brings out the the poignant state of the farmers – how they are forced to sell off their lands to the Government at lower than market rates only to give it to bad businessmen like Harry Mandola a.k.a Mandola(Pankaj Kapoor) who will earn huge money by developing malls, factories and housing projects on that land. Chaudari Devi (Shabana Azmi) is the corrupt bureaucrat. She will help Mandola earn the farmers land so that the Mandola will share ... » read more

I had decided not to watch this movie. But as it happens often, nothing goes as per plan, i eneded up being in a movie theatre shelling out an exorbitant 290 bucks per ticket. And boy! i wish i would hav stuck to my original decision. Vishal Bhardwaj disappoints again. The story is age old of a ruthless landlord mandola(pankaj kapur)trying to acquire farmer's lands by unfair means dreaming of building a concrete jungle in conjuction with a corrupt minister (shabana azmi), with matru (Imran khan) mandola's man friday being the robin hood of farmers. Its a humorous take ... » read more

Film: Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola; Cast: Pankaj Kapur, Imran Khan, Anushka Sharma, Arya Babbar and Shabana Azmi; Director: Vishal Bhardwaj; Rating: ***

Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola is a political satire. The film begins with Mr. Mandola and his drinking companion, Matru, creating havoc.

Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandol, belongs to feudal lord, Hukum Singh Mandola aka Harry (Pankaj Kapur) from the first frame, literally. Harry harbours the dream of selling his agricultural land for industrialisation and development, not sparing a thought to the villagers' plight.

But that is only when he is sober. But after taking alcohol, he is a changed man, completely transformed. The socialist in him surfaces and incredibly, he challenges his own feudal self, wanting» Read full review
