Meenakshi Sheshadri (real name Shashikala Seshadri) was born on November 16, 1957 in Bihar. Her father was an employee of Sindri fertiliser plant. Meenakshi was a trained dancer, and gave her first stage performance at the age of 4. In 1981, Meenakshi participated in Miss India contest. This brought her closer to the world of hindi films. She began trying to meet producers and directors.
Meenakshi Seshadri got her break with Painter Babu (1983) opposite Rajiv Goswami. Though the film flopped, Meenakshi Seshadri was noticed by rising film-maker Subhash Ghai, who decided to re-launch her.
The film was Hero (1983), and it changed Meenakshi’s fortunes. Hero was a love story where she was introduced alongwith Jackie shroff. Hero went on to become the biggest hit of that year, and it took Meenakshi Seshadri to new heights of fame.
After the mammoth success of Hero, Meenakshi Seshadri went on to do many more films with the biggest of film-makers and worked with all the big stars of those days. Some prominent films in Seshadri’s career in the 80s are Satyamev Jayte (1985), Meri Jung (1985), Dacait (1987), Shehanshah (1988) and Joshilay (1989). Till now, Meenakshi Seshadri was more famous for her eye-catching beauty and exceptional dancing skills than her acting prowess. Meenakshi Seshadri’s career took a U-turn when she did Ghayal (1990). The film was a huge hit, and Meekashi won a lot of acclaim for her restrained performance in this film. Meenakshi Seshadri’s toru-de-force was Raj Kumar Santoshi’s next film Damini (1993). Meenakshi had an author-backed role in this film, and she gave an expectional performance. Later, Meenakshi did fewer films than before. Meenakshi’s performance in Ghatak (1996) was also appreciated. In 1997, Meenakshi did Do Rahein (1997), which turned out to be her last film.
Meenakshi Seshadri is currently settled in United States with her husband Harish Mysore and two kids, Kendra and Josh, and is enjoying her golden years in comfort.
Meenakshi Seshadri has learnt all the 4 main dance styles of India.
