Imran, Ali Zafar and Katrina made a great team on and off screen. They were always goofing around and having a ball. They especially had a blast when all three were shooting together on the night of Diwali - Ali Zafar broke into a spur of the moment live gig and belted out song after song while Imran and Katrina cheered him on. All three danced and sang together and it became one big and crazy impromptu Diwali party!
Imran Khan is obsessed with cars and it was rather funny when director Ali spoke with him about riding a discarded 4X4 jeep in MBKD. Imran soon got emotionally attached to the jeep and ensured that everyone rode it cautiously.
Massive crowds appeared to watch Imran Khan shoot at Dehradun Railway Station. The public was uncontrollable and went wild - they only relented when Imran took the mike and requested everyone to be quiet in order for the crew to be able to shoot. Imran was a clear favourite and worked the Dehradun crowd very well by obliging fans with waves, hugs and pictures!
There was lot of confusion in the set with the director, Ali Abbas Zafar and actor Ali Zafar having similar names. So, the crew decided to call the actor Ali Zafar as Zafar and the director was given the name Ali during the shooting.
In a very important scene, Katrina had to slap Imran. Imran insisted that Katrina must genuinely slap him to make the scene look real. In the pursuit of the perfect take, Imran got slapped a dozen times and was left with a puffy red cheek. At the end of it all Katrina very sweetly got him a box of chocolates as she felt responsible. Perhaps that helped to sweeten the pain...
As soon as fans heard that Katrina was shooting for DHUNKI at Agra Fort, a crowd of 1000 plus gathered within a few minutes! All the crowd and mob shots shown in the song are authentic - the only way Katrina could safely leave the venue at the end of the shoot was when a team of police was called to escort her out and take her away in a police van. Catch Katrina in a never seen before ‘70’s rockstar avatar’ oozing unstoppable energy and charisma in DHUNKI!
In a funny and quirky scene between Imran and Katrina, director Ali Abbas found something amiss. He decided to add a gun as a fun and interesting element to the scene but while shooting, Imran accidentally hit the gun on Katrina's nose and her nose started bleeding. Katrina was a very good sport about it all and continued shooting after she took a quick break in order to regain herself.
Reports suggest, the movie is loosely based on Hollywood flick, 'Dan In Real Life' where Steve Carell falls in love with his brother's (Dane Cook) girlfriend (Juliette Binoche) which had earlier also inspired Onir's movie, 'Sorry Bhai'.
Apparently, the advertisements in various classified pages of newspapers inspired the writer-director Ali Abbas Zafar to write the story for this movie .
Imran learned how to ride a scooter for the movie ‘Mere Brother Ki Dulhan’. It was a tough balancing act for him, as Katrina kept doing crazy things as her brief was to distract Imran while he rode the scooter.
