Mita Chattopadhay was born in Kolkata on August 10th, 1943. Her father’s name is Phanibhushan Chattopadhay. She passed her Higher Secondary Examination from Deshbandhu School. Ad then she graduated from Ashutosh College. Apart from her academic studies she also learn dancing from Gopal Pillai, Athinlal and Manishankar. She took singing lessons from Rajen Basu, Manmatha Banerjee and Bhaktimoy Dasgupta.
She made her debut in the film “Abhijatri” in the year 1947 directed by Hemen Gupta. She was only 4 then. Her performance was so good in that film that she did not have to look back again. Her acting career continued non-stop till 1964. Her major film were in that period were “Hanabari” (1952), “Anapurnar Mandir” (1954), “Chatujje Barujje” (1955), “Personal Assistant” (1959), “Haat Baratei Bandhu” (1960), “Surya Snan” and (1962), “Chhay Surya” (1963). She again came back in acting in 1978. That year acted in “Pranay Pasha”. She acted in “Biyer Phool” in the year 1996 that was the debut film Rani Mukherjee. She appeared first in stage as a dancer. She also acted in both amateur and commercial stage. She took part in RadioDrama and Television serials.
