Mohan Segal was born on December 1, 1921 in Jalandhar. In 1947, Mohan came to Bombay as he wanted to be a film maker. He played a small part in a film Afsar (1950). But He always wanted to b a director.

His first film as a director was Aulad (1954). He also directed Adhikar (1954). He then turned producer and made the film New Delhi (1956) on his own terms.

Mohan Segal’s breakthrough film was Apna Haath Jagannath (1960). This film was a commercial success. He was also the executive director on Anpadh (1962). However, Mohan Segal’s turning point was the much acclaimed Dewar (1966) starring Dharmendra and Sharmila Tagore. This film really established him as a credible film maker.

Mohan’s next two films Kanyaadaan (1969) and Sajan (1969) were no great shakes at the box-office. With his next film Saawan Bhado (1970), He launched Rekha and gave the industry a Glamour Icon of coming years. His next film Raja Jani (1972) was a huge success at the box-office. His other most successful film in the 70s was Ek Hi Raasta (1977) starring Jeetendra, Rekha and Shabana Azmi. However, after Ek Hi Raasta, Mohan Segal didn’t live upto the expectations. His next films like Kartavya (1979), Samrat (1982), Daulat (1982), Hum Hain Laajawaab (1984) sank totally at the box-office. His last film was Kasam Suhaag Ki (1989), which too flopped badly.
