  • Ooofff…….what a story line

Mon Niye rating: 3 out of 10(Chandi Mukherjee wrote on 27 Jan 2010)

Swapan Saha’s latest film “Mon Niye” has its male protagonist Raaj (Rishi), a student of Durgapur Engineering college. But if you think this Durgapur is the same Durgapur you know of Bardwan District, you will be wrong. In this Durgapur you will find hills, valleys and wide streets just like Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad. Even red buses with Ramoji logo move along those streets.
But the cyber café run by Raaj’s father Pop (Rajatabha Dutta) and the heroine Sweety’s (Paromita) home are in Kolkata.
After passing from engineering college Raaj gets a job. As he doesn’t want to leave his father, he refuses the promotion and post in Delhi. At this time, Raaj, who decided no to marry found Paromita dancing in rain and thought she would be the ideal partner of his life. But he didn’t know how to propose the girl. His friend manages to know the telephone number of Sweety. Pompy, one of Sweety’s friend informed Raaj not to contact Sweety as her marriage was already fixed with a boy named Joy, from America.
Pop suggested his son Raaj to meet the girl as Joy as she never saw her would be husband. So, Raaj meets Sweety as Joy and starts visiting her house they both start going to restaurant, visit different scenic spots of the town, and singing romantic duet songs. Both Sweety and Raaj, alias Joy fell in love with each other.
Raaj in the mean time tried to say the truth several times, but he couldn’t. at that time real Joy comes back from America. His parents then visits Sweety’s place to meet her father (Pradip Mukherjee) and mother (Ratna Ghosal). Nearly almost two hours later of the film time we come to know that Sweety lives in this palace alone, with not even a servant, became her parents stay some where else.
Seeing the real Joy, Sweety becomes mad and break all the relationship with Raaj. But Raaj can not forget Sweety. So one day along with his friends he goes to Joy’s place to tell him the relationship between him and Sweety. There he finds it is the same Joy who was a senior student in his college.
Then comes a long flash back where we come to know that both Joy and Raaj were at logger head during their college days. Raaj challenges Joy regarding the possession of Sweety as he believes Sweety loves him still. Now to cut the long story to shot the film ends in the marriage-mandap of Joy and Sweety. Joy was about to apply sindoor to Sweety when Raaj comes to say good bye. Then Joy says he never loses any fight so he sacrifices Sweety’s hand to Raaj.
Ooofff…….what a story line and what a film!! Introducing Paromita is very poor in acting. Rishi is another copy cat of Dev, minus acting. Rajatabha is the only exception in this comic role. Jubin Garg as music director is not very promising.
