Of late Swapan Saha has started making films with new pairs and ‘Mon Niye’ introduces a new pair –Rishi and Subhra Kundu. The tale is nothing new, but that of a boy Raju who relentlessly pursues a girl called Sweety and impersonates her would be husband whom she has never seen and gets close to her. When the would be husband Joy comes back from U.S and lands at her place withy his parents, she comes to know Raju’s real identity and is devastated. She refuses to meet Raju and her marriage is fixed with Joy. He decides to go away to Delhi with a job as he is devastated. When he lands up at Joy and Sweety’ marriage to wish them good luck, Joy makes a sacrifice and brings Raju and Sweety together.
Rishi is quite promising among all the new faces that we have seen in the past few months, but special mention must be made of the heroine Subhra Kundu. She is probably the worst newcomer and actress who we have seen in recent times. She has an absolute deadpan face and there is simply no expression. Rajatava Dutta as Raju’s father is good. The music has been composed by Zubin Garg of ‘Ya Ali’ fame. A few absurdities are in the plot. E.g at the beginning of the film when his boss is pleased with his work after working for a year; he is promoted to the position of General Manager of their Delhi Branch. Now in which company can such a thing ever take place? Firstly a branch can not have a G.M and this can happen only in films! By the way, it seems as if the heroine is the beloved wife of the chairman of Rose Valley Group, Gautam Kundu
