One day, Dr.Daya Anand(Anupam Kher) watches a girl Asha(Sridevi) shouting that she doesn't remember anything about herself. Dr.Daya Anand is famous for his unusual way of treatment. He knows that no relative has come to meet her for many days and she being a patient of amnesia would find it difficult to spend her life alone. Dr.Daya Anand thinks of an idea and asks Anand Verma (Anil Kapoor) to pretend as her husband until she gets her memory back. Anand agrees and takes Asha home, the name, which is also made up by Dr.Daya Anand himself. Asha at first finds out that Anand is a fraud, but slowly she starts liking him. Anand works in his press which isn't doing much business due to the customers line that end up in the neighbouring press. Anand loved his first wife a lot, who died of heart attack at a incident, where Anand was busy saving a drowning child, who was the daughter of Dr.Daya Anand. Dr.Daya Anand regrets that incident a lot and therefore wants that Anand and Asha marry each other. Anand gets fed up of this duty with no recovery sign from Asha, and asks Dr.Daya Anand to tell her the truth. When Dr.Daya Anand doesn't agree, Anand goes to the police inspector to publish an advertisement unaware of the fact that Dr.Daya Anand already had made up another story to the inspector. One day, Asha comes to know that Anand is not her husband. But Dr.Daya Anand tells her that Anand isn't a bad person and he would always keep her happy. Will Asha agree to Dr.Daya Anand and marry Anand? Will Anand agree to the marriage? Will Asha never get her memory back? Does she have any past? All these questions are answered in the latter half of the story.
