A very touchy and sensitive movie where a daughter finds her father and forms a relationship. Retired Justice Gopichand Verma(Amrish Puri) lives away from his family in Ooty. Verma is very hard, disciplined, and loud fellow from outside but very soft and understanding from inside. The reason for splitting from his family, was his illegitimate daughter Nandini. Nandini was put up in an orphanage by Verma, where she learned everything, but could never find her dad. So, she sets off from the orphanage and starts looking for her father. When she comes to know that Verma is her dad, she goes to visit the Verma family house. But Verma's family members throw her in a mental hospital with the fear that Verma may give Nandini his whole property in his absence. Nandini some how runs away from the mental hospital and lands up in Ooty where she meets Pritam(Jay Mehta), a tourist guide. Initially they fight, but eventually they start liking each other. Nandini starts living as a servant in Verma's house. However, Mr.Verma is unaware how Nandini looks. As time passes, Nandini develops a good bond with Mr.Verma. Verma becomes soft from outside, and starts living a new life. But later he comes to know about Nandini. Then Mr.Verma lets out one secret which he had hidden for years. Nandini is the illegitimate child of Mr. Verma's sister Mayadevi(Anju Mahendru) and Mr.Gopal(Anil Dhawan). Since Mr.Verma wanted to save Mayadevi's future, he sent Nandini to the orphanage. For their act, Gopal never had a child, while Mayadevi became a widow within few days and they both never had a child again.
