KARAN JOHAR'S ODYSSEY FROM DOMESTIC TO ECLECTIC

My Name Is Khan rating: 8 out of 10

    By Dipen Guha(13 Feb 2010)

A syndrome has to be adopted as a catalyst to strike balance with the existing trend of cinema. Karan Johar has followed this suit and done justice. In his latest venture, the King Khan is his mouthpiece, who is laid up with Asperger's syndrome, a kind of autism that virually dismembers the man from the common-run despite his outstanding faculty. Rijwan Khan comes all the way to the USA, becomes a salesman of cosmetic products. He happens to come across Mandira in a parlour. She develops bent for him, mainly because of his bizarre candidness. Mandira who has a son by her ... » read more

My Name Is (Shah Rukh) Khan and I have a message

My Name Is Khan rating: 8 out of 10

My Name is Khan is Shah Rukh Khan's movie and SRK-Kajol pair performs very well. Karan Johar's direction is excellent though the script could have been better. I felt some scenes like Shah Rukh helping the hurricane victims in Virginia were a bit too contrived. It's not India, where state help doesn't arrive for a long time. Honestly, when I was watching this part of the movie, it reminded me of Tum Mile, with unimaginative sets.

I feel, MNIK is largely driven by Shah Rukh's vision of Islam as a religion and his efforts at bridging the gap and building bonds. ... » read more

    A Thought provoking, emotional cinema

My Name Is Khan rating: 10 out of 10

If you would ever recall your favorite love stories, most of you would always come across movies like DDLJ, Jab We Met, Kuch Kuch Hota hai etc. If you would ever think about what was so common in them, you would realize they all were high on emotional drama with the feel good element. Come My Name is Khan, and you are all set into a different world of love. Yes, My Name is Khan is an out an out a love story but what sets it apart from the rest of the love stories, is that it comes with an element of humanity. It is different, because hardly would you come around a love ... » read more

Only the Shahrukh Khan the Actor could Repair this

My Name Is Khan rating: 6 out of 10

There are three types of Shah Rukh Khan fans, 1st and the largest are those who love the Superstar SRK than the Actor Shah Rukh Khan, 2nd are those who love the Actor Shah Rukh Khan than the Superstar SRK, and third are those who simple love him in any form, may it even be Guddu or Ram Jaane. The Superstar has been more successful and has a league of its own, but the Actor is also not so far, though has done quite less amount of work compared to the successful flow on the other side. But all those films have been my personal favorites like Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, Darr, Swades, ... » read more

A Good Biography film shown in a Documentary way!

My Name Is Khan rating: 4 out of 10

I just don’t know why there is so much hype about this film that it’s so super and excellent and etc. I saw this film and I felt that it’s nothing that great about this film which need to be appreciated and applauded so much.

I have some points to share with you just because why I have felted so:

    1. First of all I think so that this is the worst ever direction done by Karan Johar. I mean look at the film K3G, what sets, what locations, it was worth watching only for these and it was purely looking like what heavy jack of money is being spent. But in MNIK, ... » read more

The first, and probably only, negative review.

Indian filmmakers have a penchant – they tend to invariably ruin a movie by having a dumbass melodramatic climax. I don’t know why, but every filmmaker thinks that the Indian audience loves drama, and for a major part, they’re right too. Our aam janta laps up melodrama faster than Virendra Sehwag laps up milk. Be it in on TV or in our films, the more the drama, the more the eyeballs. And in achieving that, if a film is ruined, who cares, right?

Right now, I’m sure the producers and distributors of My Name Is Khan are laughing all the way to the bank. I still ... » read more

    heart warming but too melodramatic!

My Name Is Khan rating: 0 out of 10

Its a heart warming tale of Rizvan Khan's life that strikes a cord or two because of its sheer sincerity. Potraying a man suffering from Asperger's syndrome, Khan delivers an absolute honest and straight from the heart performance.. the love story of shahrukh and kajol reminds one of old days and there are moments in the film that make you smile, laugh and cry.. but the problem with MNIK is that it tries to achieve too much. Karan Johar tries to address an ordinary muslim's catastrophe after 9/11; squeeze a message; sensitise on autism without letting go off his trademark ... » read more

My Name Is Fan And I Love SRK

My Name Is Khan rating: 0 out of 10

When you see a Shahrukh Movie's tickets are taken in advance for at least 4-5 days, then you should understand that "Kuch Dhamaaka Hone Wala Hai, Boss!" And this one was a huge bang. When shouts come from all over the hall you should know that this is gonna be a very important movie of your life. My Name Is Khan not only does keep your expectation, but also raises your expectation in a huge quantity for the next of King Khan. Superbly handled direction, Superbly Carried out Roles, Superb Script & Story, Superb Music, Superb Dialouge adds up to a "Superb Movie" where you ... » read more

    MWM : movie with a message ...

My Name Is Khan rating: 7 out of 10

    By Amitava Sengupta(16 Feb 2010)

MNIK release in mumbai itself gives some idea about the movie. Entertaining first half, you are not sure which way the movie will go. Then in the middle lots of melodrama which create a mess and uncertain situation. Finally wind up well at the end.

Well I should say that after Swades, this is another Shah rukh movie I liked. Also for the first time I saw him act better than Kajol. Karan Johar done a real good job. The message was good and packaged in a nice way. Performance was superb from all actors. Kajol only in few occasion was a bit dull or seems to be trying ... » read more

1of the best KJo film for audience as well for him

My Name Is Khan rating: 7 out of 10

    By Chintan (03 Jun 2010)

Karan Johar comes of age. He tells a complex story with sparkling simplicity, without forgetting that cinema is primarily meant to entertain. For Karan Johar, the film is another step in the direction he has been charting since KANK and with his recent productions — of giving audiences their fill of escapism, but finding a way to experiment within the minimum space his entertainers allow him. The applause is wild and while many might complain that Johar has simply ditched old movie cliches for more American ones, none can argue that the segue seems surprisingly seamless. ... » read more
