The story revolves around Chitra who after the death of her parents stays with her paternal uncle and aunt. Being a woman of principles and having seen the hardest side of life she wanted a stability in life. By the dint of her talent she applied for and got a job in police. Then suddenly she meets Malay in a bus and though she didn't have a good interaction with Malay in her college, she now strikes a good rappot with him. They gradually fall in love and enter married life. But as the days pass certain misunderstandings crop up between them. Malay starts doubting Chitra's professional life and suspects her of being involved in illicit relationships. The situation worsens when Chitra turns pregnant. Meanwhile Subir, the boyfriend of Chitra's sister Kalyani, gets a job in a private firm. But he needs to put in a security deposit of Rs. 15,000, of which Rs. 10000 is provided by Chitra. This again creates trouble between Malay and Chitra. Later on when certain goons threaten Malay and his mother, the blame falls on Chitra. Frustrated with life Chitra decides to commit suicide, but only stops short of it out of concern for her yet-to-be born child. But finally Malay understands his misinterpretations of Chitra's professional life. The story thus ends on a happy note.
