Due to a curse by a sadhubaba, Jivan and his friend dies while Puja loses her mother Rama, who becomes a snake as a result of that curse. Hence the name of the film is Naginkanya. Perhaps, it was the desire of fate that Puja and Bijoy, son of Jivan, fall in love with each other. But there are many obstacles in the path of their love, such as the 'banjara' rules Puja needs to follow as she was adopted by the sardar of this tribal group. Raja casts an evil eye on Puja. But Puja sacrifices her own life in order to save Bijoy captured by the banjaras. The sardar takes her to forest from where he had brought her and leaves her there. A snake comes and sucks out the poison whereby Puja comes back to life and unites with Bijoy. They have a beautiful child but Puja's past comes back to haunt her. Bijoy's mother, Ranima orders her out of the house as they need to maintain the standards expected from the house of royals - Thakurs. Puja's son, Bapi, not knowing that Bijoy is his father tries to take revenge against him, as he insulted his dadubhi - who gave shelter to both him and Puja at their hour of crisis. He sets off a snake. This time again Bijoy is saved from the clutches of death as the same snake comes out to suck out the poison. All misgivings are cleared and Puja and Bijoy reunite with their son.
