    The locale of the story is a river terrain, deep in Sunderban's dense forests; criss-crossing rivers and pouncing predators. It is the day of Dusserah, the last day of Durgapujal. The exciting annual boat race is just over. Nakul and his friends have won the competition. The villagers cheer with mass jubilation. Padma, a young girl condemed to a social indignites by elders, moves among the rejoicing crowd. Manmatha Sikdaz says that today's festival is an ill omen .The inevitible clash occurs when Manmatha suddenly drowns the only motor launch service on flimsy grounds . Profuse cathes of fish awaiting transports, to outside markets decompose .Manmatha did not leave any opportunity to ridicule Nakul to decrease his popularity in the village. Ramen, Manmatha's son with his eye on the state elections, wins confidence of Nakul by raising high hopes in the villages and luring them with false promises . However, Ramen's mark of the goodness soon drops off after his success in the elections .Nakul has been won over with power and pelf .He has been made a dignitary in the village welfare society. Manmatha finally succeeds in getting Nakul trapped on charge of possessing illegal gold and gets him arrested. Manmatha strikes a fatal deal with Nakul. He can get Nakul released by influencing authorities but Nakul must leave the village within twenty four hours . Defeated and devastated Nakul takes a boat to sail his own soil forever. Padma spots Nakul floating away in tiny boat . Nakul must not be allowed to go , shouts Padma, the fight is not is not yet lost . Nakul notices his friends arrayed along the bamb ready to join another Dusserah boat race. Today Padma's exhortations and his companions expectant faces awakens Nakul out of his stupor . The victor wins the boat race, symbolysing the struggle againts oppression and exploitation .So the laurel must be won with their boat, Nakul with his friends rushes forward to face the challenge.
