Dr Sunil Gupta (Om Puri), a gynaecologist owns 50% partnership in Prakash Nursing Home along with Dr.Hira (Achyut Poddar). Sunil's father was also a doctor in Nasik who would give free medical treatment to the poor people, but he himself landed up in debt because of this. However Hira is more of businessman and less of a doctor. S unil is in love with Dr.Yashoda (Priya Tendulkar) a senior RMO in the Kasturba Municipal Hospital. In this hospital the doctors are an irresponsible lot. They are always short of services, experts & medicines. There are frequent strikes. With time Sunil has also changed as a person interested more in earning money in order to maintain his social status. But Yashoda is more interested in treating patients. Once Sunil has to treat a minister's daughter-in-law, Mrs Mohile a pregnant woman. Hira asks Sunil to pay special attention to her for the sake of vested interests. Hira sometime back had made a mistake in treating a patient. The patient had died, and so he had fired the chief nurse. While operating on Mrs. Mohite Sunil finds that either the mother or the child can be saved. He opts to save the mother. The minister holds Sunil responsible and lodges a complaint with the medical council. To save his skin Hira also joins hands with the minister thus suspending Sunil from the medical council. But later Sunil comes to know about Hira's patient's murder from the absconding nurse. With that proof he files a case in court which he wins. Later on he follows his father's footsteps.
