Breaking the conventional rules of filmmaking, Natir Puja was filmed like a staged play. After editing, the footage was 10,577 ft long.
Rabindranath himself played a character named Upala, which was not in the original play and was added later for the film.
B. N. Sircar, founder of New Theaters was impressed with the play, Natir Puja and invited Rabindranath Tagore to direct a film version of the play in 1931.
