In His debut film Amit Sen has hit the bull’s eye. “Natobar Not Out” has come out as one of the best entertaining film of this year.
Based on Kamaleswar Mukherjee’s story and screenplay Amit Sen has proved through this film that he is not only the finest AD-film maker but he can tell a story visually for long 2 hrs 15 minutes.
In the 150th year of Rabindranath Tagore, possibly this is the best filmi- tribute to the greatest poet, India has ever produced, through the format is total comedy.
Natobar Gupta (debutant Mustafa Prakash) is a young man who wants to be a poet, and the inspiration of his being poetic is the next door girl Mistu (Raima Sen). But unfortunately his poetic talent never accepted, neither by his father (Ramaprasad Banik), nor by the local poetry-dub. But these non-acceptances never become hindrance in producing non-stop poems. But one thing bothers Natobar, is that his non-ability of rhyming correctly. Getting advice from a local drunkard (Kharaj Mukherjee), he tries with some opium ball, but fails again.
But one night Tagore, from his photo frame, speaks to him and grants him the boon- he will be able to rhyme all his poems at his will-but there is a time limit – from 25th Boishakh to 22nd Shraban, i.e. , from the birthday of the poet himself till the date he died.
In the next morning Natobar, finds himself a great rhyme-expert and by the help of a well wisher (Saswata Chatterjee) he gets a job of copy-writer in an AD agency. The boss of the agency (Kaushik Ganguly) and the other becomes stunned by the poem writing expertise Natobar. Natobar becomes the member of a completely different world where he is slightly distracted by the lady worker Anjali (Ananya Dutta, debutant).
The entire film, though has a serious thought in the under heath, carries it comic-structure very effectively by the situations created, the dialogues, and the acting.
There is Jeet and Moon Moon Sen in two small cameo roles. Jeet as Jeet, and Moon Moon Sen as a bar singer.
Raima, Mustafa Prakash and Ananya- create a love triangle, which end hilariously when Natobar find the other girl in his life is a mother of a kid.
In small roles Sudipa Basu, Mousumi Saha, Biswajit Chakraborty adds different style of comic elements to the movie.
Music by Debojyoti Mishra is very good, and especially one song sung by Anindya Chatterjee of Chandrabindoo is definitely going to the hit.
