Diretor Sujit Guha’s “Neel Akasher Chandni” is just like his previous film “Mon Maane Naa”, mixed product of three-four Hindi films. The first half more or less goes like “Mohabbat” – two friends Neel (Jisshu) and Akash (Jeet) falls for the same girl Chandni (Koel). Chandni love Akash but her parents fixes her marriage with Neel. Neel becomes very happy but soon he learns that his best friend Akash and Chandni love each other. So, Neel readily sacrifices his love and convinces everyone to let Akash marry Chandni. Unlike “Mohabbat” Neel’s father sends goons to kill Akash. After Akash’s death Chandni’s father forced her to marry Neel. After that, the film goes like “Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam”. Neel and Chandni go to North Bengal for their honeymoon, and there Akash takes his entry as Anthony Gomes in “Kaho Na Pyaar Hai” style. Then again in “Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam” manner the couple starts looking for Akash, Chandni gets injured and slowly falls in love with Neel. Now, again in “Mohabbat” style. Anthony saves Neel’s life and later confesses that he is Akash. Neel arranges everything for the marriage of Chandni and Akash. In a “Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam” manner Chandni tells Akash that she loves Neel so she cannot marry him and Akash understands her condition. In this meantime the news of Neel’s accident come to them and they run to hospital (a little like “Mohabbat”). Then Akash donates his kidney to save Neel’s life. After that Akash dies like Shahrukh Khan in “Kal Ho Na Ho”.
So, basically there is no room for doing anything for the actors, apart from imitating different actors in different films. Koel looked pretty and that’s all. The songs are some what worth of mentioning. They are sung by Shaan, Mahalakshmi and Ambarish. But music director Jeet Ganguli cannot come out from his typical style. The lyrics by Gautam Sushmit and Priyo Chattopadhyay suits the film well, but how long the audience would remember them, is a big question. The songs “Saiyaan…” and “Ki Bhalo Lage Pia Dekhe Tomay…” are good to hear.
Action director Judo-Ramu basically had nothing to do, as there is only fight scene in the entire film. Mr. M. Sushmit tried his level best to blend the scenes to make a film by his editing. Cinematographer K. V Ramanna has done his job well. The natural sceneries are beautifully captured and used but the scene where Jisshu drives car on a highway in USA looks more than artificial. Its after a long time Jeet and Jisshu have worked together in this film (after “Premi”).
Audience can see the movie chewing pop-corns and drinking cold drinks. They are also advised to keep some tissue papers with them because some may cry watching Koel crying in the entire movie, and some may cry wasting money and their valuable time.
