    Kutch Alag…..but…

Director Kabir Khan, whose last directorial film was “Kabul Express” Re-Visits the aftermath of 9/11 again in “New York”. In his last film he showed us what happened to Terrain country like Afghanistan and this time decides to show us from the ground level, i.e. in New York itself. So will New York be as hard hitting as Kabul Express or collapse like the Twin tower did in New York? Let’s find out.

“New York” is story of Omar [Neil Nitin Mukesh] who is held by FBI Agent Roshan [Irfaan Khan] on suspect of terrorism . While interrogation he is asked to revel his relationship with his friends in College. Omar tells the cops about his friendship with Sam [John Abraham] and Maya [Katrina Kaif] whom he has not met after the college days. Roshan reveals to Omar that Sam is also a Suspected Terrorist and they need his help to solve the mystery. Omar agrees but only to prove that his friend is Innocent. Thus starts the new journey in life of Omar who meets his friends after so many years to find out that is he a terrorist or innocent. What happens next is the entire movie about.

Story is good and has good mixture of facts and fiction. Screenplay is nice but fails at many points in second half resulting to the length of the film and making it bit drag. Dialogs are nice and not the typical stereotype one which we see in such kind of films. Editing is weak and needed to tighten the film in second half. Climax is nice and the message spreaded in the end is well written.

Director Kabir Khans Kabul Express was a good film and also a visual treat. The way he showed the Afghan valley and locations was fantastic. Such finesse was expected in New York too but maybe due to overexposure of this city in Yash Chopra-Karan Johar films the freshness is lost. His way of storytelling was nice and different {without screaming he conveyed the message as they are conveyed with screaming in such films]. But there was something missing in second half, despite of a good climax. Also the length in such films has to be short or else the film turns to be precious or drag and that’s what happens at many places in this film.

On performance basis it’s Neil Nitin Mukesh who steals the show with his superb performance and screen presence. All his fans will have a double treat as he sings his grandfather Singer Mukesh’s super hit song “Zindagi Khwab hain” in his own voice. Katrina is average and does not look as charming as she is in other films. John has done a good job, better than what he keeps doing but again the role was bit heavy for him to carry on his shoulders. Irfaan was a good support and his way of looking at things impresses and portrays the message in different form.

So bol meri “Filmi Khopdi” is film mein kitna hain dum ?

Dum hain kaafi dum hain on performance and concept basis pe. But fails at many places in second half on length and screenplay. So in short people who love good cinema will enjoyed this film and for masala film lovers will have to wait another week for “Kambakkht Ishq”.
