Saibal Mitra's 'Sajarur Kanta' which is based on a story by Saradindu Bandopadhyay featuring Byomkesh Bakshi and his sidekick Ajit will see Dhritiman Chatterjee and Pradip Mukherjee play the famous sleuth and Ajit, his sidekick respectively. The story is a mystery which Byomkesh solves in his later stages of his life and that is why the respective actors were chosen as Byomkesh and Ajit. Indraneil Sengupta and Konkona Sen Sharma also play vital roles in the film which also features Debdut Ghosh, Kaushik Sen, Biswajit Chakrabarty, Kanchana Maitra and others and is being produced by Macneill Media Pvt Ltd and is being presented by Pradip Churiwal and Saikat Mitra.

The film will be contemporary and so is set in 2014 where we will see cell phones and character played by Indraneil even travelling in a BMW and reading the Telegraph. Saibal Mitra had thought of making this film some years back, but somehow it didn't conceptualize. The story is one of the most popular Byomkesh stories and a film based on the same story had been made 40 years back.

The film is on the floors currently and a press meet was held at DKS to mark this announcement on Monday where the entire cast was present barring Pradip Mukherjee and Kaushik Sen.
