The Amit Kumar Fan Club celebrated the 60th birth anniversary of Amit Kumar at an unique function at ICCR on Monday. Two albums which had been released long back, Amit Kumar's first Hindi album 'Oh Sweetheart' (Sare Gama) and a Bengali album 'Kolkatar Gaan' were re-released on the occasion.
The event was unique because though the birthday boy himself was not present (he was supposed to come back from U.S to Mumbai that day), musicians who usually perform with him like Bhanu Gupta, Rocket Mondol, Tapas Bhowmick, Bapi Ukil and Anup Chatterjee performed some popular Amit Kumar numbers by playing the instrumental versions of the songs. Also some rare audio and video clips of R.D.Burman's last stage show in Kolkata, unreleased songs composed for Amit Kumar by R.D.Burman, stage shows of Amit Kumar and Asha Bhosle were shown and heard as well.
A birthday cake was cut on the occasion and the presence of the birthday boy would have been an icing on the cake, but unfortunately it did not happen that way.
