Goynar Baksho is a film which Aparna Sen has been wanting to make for years. The film which is based on the theme of magic realism and will be based on a story by Sirshendu Mukhopadhyay will finally go on the floors from October which will be produced by Shree Venkatesh Films.
The announcement took place at a very interesting evening organized by Shree Venkatesh Films in association with Prabha Khaitan Foundation where Ms.Sen read out chapters from Gayner Baksho (both in English and Bengali) and introduced her prospective team of cast and crew members of the film to the audience. The film will be edited by Rabi Ranjan Maitra while the cinematographer will be Soumik Haldar and the music will be by Debojyoti Mishra. Till now, the actors and actresses who have been chosen to star in the film are Mousumi Chatterjee, Ranjit Mullick, Saswata Chatterjee, Srabanti, Pijush Ganguly, Manashi Sinha and others. She also mentioned that though these names are finalized, however a few other actors or actresses might also be roped in later.
The actors and actresses will have to undergo a grueling workshop under Sohag Sen as the dialect and dialogues will be in Bangal Bhasha (what we call the dialect of the 'East Bengalis') and barring Mousumi Chatterjee, no one can speak it, however the hard taskmaster that Aparna Sen is, we are sure she will extract excellent performances out of the entire cast. Sirshendu Mukhopadhyay was present on the occasion and has given his consent to Aparna Sen to take liberties and make a few changes here and there from the original story for the sake of the film.
Konkona Sen Sharma who is also part of the cast wasn't present as she was shooting in Mumbai and had sent a SMS to her mother expressing her regrets which her mother Aparna Sen read out to the audience. The announcement cum play reading session took place at Taj Bengal on Monday.
