Nishipadda was tarnscreated by Arabinda Mukherjee from the story of Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay. The film acquired the status of a cult film with heart wrenching performances from Uttam Kumar, Sabitri Chatterjee, Anup Kumar & Jahar Roy. The film deals with the intoxicating story of divine love between an escort & her admirer. The film also deals about “true love” between a mother and her child. Arabinda Mukherjee managed to weave the emotional web through his screenplay & the philosophical dialogues. The music by Nachiketa Ghosh gave chart busters like “Na Na Na Aaj Rate Aar jatra Shunte Jabo Na…..”. The film won a National Award for best singer (Manna Dey & Sandhya Mukherjee). The editing, camera & art direction were “good” considering the situation of equipments in Tollygunge during those eras. Sabitri produced a masterful maneuvering of a dejected woman with a heart of gold. The film managed to depict the essence of the original story & for this it earned both critical & public accolades.
