A story well told ...
Maverick filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has again took up direction for his new crime thriller 'Not A Love Story', inspired by the true story of the heinous murder of TV executive Neeraj Grover. Last film directed by Ramu was 'Rakta Charitra' starring Vivek Oberoi and Surya. The movie, produced by Sunil Bohra, is released on 19th August 2011. Grover was stabbed to death by former Navy officer Emile Jerome Mathew in his fiancee, Kannada actress Maria and Susairaj's flat, that led to their arrest. Susairaj, who was sentenced to three years in jail by a Mumbai court for destroying evidence, was released from jail as she had completed her. The film features Dev D fame Mahie Gill in lead role, supported by Deepak Dobriyal.
Mahesh Bhatt described Ram Gopal Varma as a 'man who has audacity', as he refused to dilute the movie content under threat of lawsuits by the accsued. Bhatt says he should be given a standing ovation for making an 'outstanding' film like 'Not A Love Story'. The film raises the bar for Indian Cinema,' Bhatt posted on micro-blogging site Twitter after he watched the film on Tuesday.
Shall we say, RGV is again back to form?
RGV succeeds in creating the impact he so desired as a film-maker, and as a film-maker he succeeds, but almost. His habit of over doing stuff, albeit passionately, takes a toll on the viewers' mind. Bbizarre camera shots, specially focused on Mahie's well groomed butts, with some rajor sharp editing create the effect at once, but all starts to become a bit too repeatative at the end. Mahie does it well as the small town actress turned starlet in Bolly town caught unaware by a certain twist of fate. But it's Deepak Dobriyal whose intense performance as an obsessive lover will amaze you the most. Finally, it's a movie that's pretty much moves you with a heavy dose of shock therapy. It's not extra-ordinary but this is certainly ramu's best effort in a long long time. Go watch!
