Today when joining a Rs. 100 cr club has become a trend and a necessity for Bollywood films the element that suffers the most is the story. In this superfluous crowd of fame, trade and commercial films, the real cinema has lost its charm. But OMG – Oh My God shows a ray of hope with its presentation of story, characters and very strong and pun intended dialogues.
The makers of OMG - Oh My God beg to differ and have truly, sincerely and mind blowingly paid attention to the story and the dialogues in the film (a very rare thing in modern films), without adding any glamour element. Although the film is inspired from a Gujarati play, it still manages to carve a niche of its own and the dedication of the filmmakers is clearly visible.
Doubting on the existence of God is indeed a sensitive topic and can hurt the sentiments of many but OMG sails smoothly in this controversial topic and makes it a lot more entertaining too. The transformation of an atheist into an intelligent believer of God is skillfully done. An intelligent thing to do really!
OMG reminds us of our blind faiths and highlights the business that is being done in the name of God. It is truly said in the film that the business of temples and priests will never come to an end; such is the faith of people in God or in the forms of God!
The film touches your heart in every scene and is yet another achievement for Paresh Rawal who in spite of the presence of a huge star Akshay Kumar, steals all the limelight. Akshay’s role in the film is important but is short-lived. Paresh’s dialogue delivery is impeccable and will definitely invite a few claps and give you Goosebumps. The conversation between the God and a common man are shown in a simple way without any special effects, the way friends talk. Akshay and Paresh share a good on screen bond and proficiently complement each other’s character. (Hera Pheri effect) Characterization of Mithun Chakraborty is also a good one and brings a smile on your face, every time he speaks.
Sonakshi Sinha’s and Prabhudeva’s special song is the only extra thing added to the movie but it somehow matches with the concept of the film.
In short OMG is an infotainment of sorts which not only preaches but also entertains you to a great extent. Who said preachy films are boring? OMG, it is not the same always!
A definite watch!!!
