An excellent offering from a multifaceted and talented young director. Omkara is Vishal Bharadwaj's take on Othello and he even ensures that the main characters have the same initials as in the original (Othello becomes Omkara and Desdemona becomes Dolly). It is a crafty conversion of the Shakespeare's story from the sophisticated backdrop of Venice to the rustic surrounding of Uttar Pradesh. Vishal Bharadwaj has taken a few liberties with the bard's tale but remains true to the soul and the core of the story. All the actors give solid performances but Saif as Langda Tyagi is a revelation- his transformation from the confused urbanite ( Dil Chahta Hai, Hum Tum) to the manipulative unsophisticate in Omkara is complete. The language is excessively foul and it is definitely not a film for the families. But if you are in the mood for a Hindi movie with some intelligence then I would definitely recommend it.
