I just realised that watching a movie can actually transfer you back in time. And thats exactly what Once up a time... does to you. From the very first scene, the movie takes you into the bygone era or as the movie would like us to remember it the Golden Era.

Well the movie is based loosely on the life of Mr Haji Mastan, our very own real life Robinhood. Who has by the way inspired many movies. Deewar was also a spn off on his life.

Milan Luthria's earlier attempts had never lived upto their expectation barring Kacche Dhagge which again had Ajay Devgn in it. So this time a lot was riding.

Well now talking about the movie. Ajay Devgn plays Sultan Mirza a smuggler "who does what the law denies but not what his conscience denies". So in short he is a Robinhood. Emraan Hasmi is Shoaib, a small time criminal who aspires to be like Sultan. And the story then takes us throught the journey of these two characters their bonding and then their fight. Ajay Devgn as a smuggler with a heart of gold not only wins your heart but also steals it (rather smuggles it). Emraan Hasmi hasalready proved his mettle in Footpath where he played a similar kind of role but with a positive shade, this time in a negative role, he does come up as a winner. Both the lead stars have put life to their character.

Kangna Ranaut as Rehana the film actress in love with Sultan is sensous, hot and glamorous and comes up with an effective and honest performance, san any "drug or alchol abuse" or any histrionics.

Prachi Desai is good in her small role.

Randeep Hooda narrates the story and his voice definitely adds a dimension to the story.

A special mention to the dialogue writer and the costume designer for re creating the 'Golden Era'.

Pritam's music is good. Pee Loon is very romantic.

Milan Luthria has come up with a winner and Balaji Film seems to have dropped 'K' and decided to stick to crime theme.

The movie is no Satya or Company and it does not try to be one. So no pseudo-promises.
An out and out masaledar movie, which promises you one thing entertainment. And thats exactly what we need from a movie.

    Memorable Scenes:
    1. When Sultan meets Rehana for the first time.
    2. The last face off between Sultan and Shoaib. They talk through their eyes.

So go and indulge yourself in the bygone era, watch the Mumbai of 70s...
And do let me know your memorable scene from the movie...
