From makers of “Shootout at Lokhandwala”, but also of the movie like “Mission Istanbul”, and from the Direction of the movie like “Deewaar – Lets bring our heroes home”, but also of the movie like “Chori Chori (2003)”; Direction by Milan Luthria and Produced by none other than Ekta Kapoor, this film “Once upon a time in Mumbai” is strictly watchable Once… Yup only for Once!

It’s true that we all love to watch gangster related movies, and ofcourse hate them in our real life. But there must be a reason why we all love to watch this gangster type of movies everytime. ... » read more

The one thing that remains constant in the film is the power packed, absolutely marvelous, well thought, poetic dialogues. The heavy dialogue-baazi most reflects the deadly decade of the 1970s. They are one of the biggest strengths of this film. They pack a punch and make the audience sympathise with or abhor the characters delivering them. And that’s why the real hero of this film is the writing. Rajat Arora's dialogues flow from the storytelling in a smooth flow of poetry and street wisdom. A potential contender for the Best Dialogue Award!

However, the screenplay ... » read more

I just realised that watching a movie can actually transfer you back in time. And thats exactly what Once up a time... does to you. From the very first scene, the movie takes you into the bygone era or as the movie would like us to remember it the Golden Era.

Well the movie is based loosely on the life of Mr Haji Mastan, our very own real life Robinhood. Who has by the way inspired many movies. Deewar was also a spn off on his life.

Milan Luthria's earlier attempts had never lived upto their expectation barring Kacche Dhagge which again had Ajay Devgn ... » read more

Film based on real life Gangsters have been a fascination for the film makers all over the world. The west have their own tale to say and on other side we have our own gangster based films like Deewar, Company, Satya, Vaastav, Agneepath, Dayavan, Shootout at Lokhandwala, Black Friday and many more. Both have loads of films inspired by the real life or happenings of the criminals, but at one point all other films makers win over us, reason being their films are more on reality and ours more on drama. They make official real life based films and uses real life names, characters, ... » read more

    Once again…Ajay Rocked!

Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai rating: 7 out of 10

Ajay Devgan does out another memorable performance. Once Upon a time we saw him as gangster Malik in Company and he manages to play Sultan with equal élan. He continues to evolve with every performance. He just speaks through his expressions. As a gangster from the 1970s Devgan brings on the table a clenched self-mocking immorality. He stands outside the character even while internalizing the performance. He glides through the role so effortlessly that you feel he was custom-made for the character. Though he has played bad boy before, he still brings a fresh raw intensity ... » read more

Rewind to the Era, Look forward to a classic

There are N number of movies on gangsters, underworld crime, etc. As much as we may hate them in real, we love to see these characters on screen. Heavy Duty dialogues, Slick and stylish dons, cabaret and so much more was there to those old gangster flicks.

Once Upon a time in Mumbaai tries exactly that. It tries to recreate an era, when all THIS was the common trade in bollywood flicks, but is no more to be seen today. IT isnt you a true story or a part of the history, but it easily makes you revisit that era, with a mix of fiction and realism.

It is ... » read more

ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAAI recreates an era that so many of us have left behind and for those who arrived on this planet post 80s, I am sure, they must have visited the era through some medium or the other, mainly movies and internet or during their academic careers.

ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAAI is a fascinating story that talks of how the mafia came into force for the first time in Mumbai. A thriller that depicts the crime scenario in Mumbai during the 70s and 80s. The rise to power of two young boys, in different age-groups, who grew up to 'rule' the streets ... » read more
