In our country we have three different types of good comedy movies. One-Simple Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Priyadarshan type of Classy comedy movies. Two- David Dhawan type of Masala entertainer movies. Three-a different league of comedy like Bheja Fry, Khosla Ka Ghosla, etc. Anything out of these is not a comedy but just a combination of crass jokes, skimpy dressed females, slapstick humor and a headache.
‘One Two Three’ is a story of Lost Diamonds. Batla Bhai [Manoj Punj], an underworld don’s 20 crores diamonds gets stolen by another rival don Papa’s [Mukesh Tiwari] henchman’s Albert & Pinto [Vrajesh Hirjee & Sanjay Mishra]. But they accidentally lose the diamonds to Chandu & Chandni [Upen Patel & Tanish], who works as car salesman in Laila’s [Sameera Reddy] Showroom. They hide the diamond in a petrol tank of a vintage car.
Batla bhai appoints Laxmi Narayan 1 [Tusshar Kapoor], a wanna-be bhai to assassinate Papa and get the diamonds. He is asked to go to Hotel Blue Diamond, where he will get the photo and details of the target. Same time Laxmi Narayan 2 [Sunil Shetty], an workaholic, who comes to same hotel to buy the vintage car from laila for his boss. Also enters Laxmi Narayan 3 [Paresh Rawal], a small time street seller of lingerie products, who now owns a lingerie production factory. He is send by his son to select the lingerie products sample from a model cum restaurant owner Jiya [Esha Deol].
But the timing goes wrong in case of all the three. Each of them land together at the same hotel at same time. Thus due to confusion they end up getting wrong letters and photos of other person. This leads to chain of errors and confusion, which finally leads them all to the diamond.
On Technical terms, the movie lacks finesse. Name it Story, Screenplay, Cinematography, etc. everything is just average and lacks sincerity. Its surprising the man Ashwani Dhar who wrote “Office Office”, the highest award winning T.V. comedy series, wrote such a loose script and weak story. The concept was good but the execution was not up to the mark.
Raghav Sachar's music is nothing to rave about.
Ashwani Dhar, also the debut director of this movie lacks the experience of directing a comedy movie. Writing a comedy and directing it are two different jobs altogether. Very few ones like Anees Bazmi can be successful. Making a comedy with one liner script and loads of confusion have worked out in past. But in such movies the comic timing, the one liners, and the chemistry has to be great. One Two Three does not have anything such to claim.
On the performance side… Sunil shetty has done a good job of a typical white collar employee, with an eye for detail. Thanks to directors like Priyadarshan and others, he has excelled in such roles. Tushar kapoor, the less said is better. He should leave the film industry and join his sister. A veteran like Paresh Rawal looks like a man without soul in this half baked character of his. People might find him crass at some time. The smaller Esha deol’s clothes go, much smaller does her role go. Sameera Reddy, who gave excellent performances in films like Musafir surprises us with this type of role selection. Neetu Chandra who plays a cop tries mixing Isha Kopikar of Kya Kool Hain Hum and Komal Chautala of Chak De India. However she fails to deliver even half of what they did. Sanjay mishra is an actor who has really done something different and deserves a mention for his Jeevan type henchman’s role. About the Rest of the actors like Upen patel, Tanisha, Mukesh Tiwari, nothing much to talk about.
So….”bol meri ‘Filmi Khopdi’ is film mein kitna hain dum???”
Bilkul bhi dum nahi hain….haan kutch chote mote laughter moments hain. Few good laughs, Sanjay Mishra and Sunil Shetty. These one two three are the only reasons to watch this so called comedy. Besides that, this movie is nothing but a combination of bad acting, bad script and bad music, which makes it Terrible Threesome.
