    Luck By Chance !!

When Abhay Deol was to mark his debut in Hindi films people reacted by saying we don’t want another Bobby Deol , or Another action hero. Little did they know that this actor will make his own league of cinema, a blend of meaningful and entertaining cinema. Though he has not been Lucky enough to get hard hitting roles not big commercial success, still has created a niche for him.

“Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye” is a film based on real incident which happened in north India. Lucky [Abhay Deol] from his teenage gets the hang of stealing stuff for his petty needs which turns out to be his profession as he grows by. Unlike other thief’s this guy has loads of confidence and smartness. He and his friend Bangali [Manu Rishi] robs and sell the loot to Gogi [Paresh Rawal]. Lucky tries to outsmart Gogi and sells the loot outside on the higher prices. Thus ends up in jail due to gage’s trap. But lucky escapes from the jail and starts operating on his own all over India. He falls in love with Sonal [Neetu Chandra] and things keep going the Lucky way. Bangali too joins him and they decide to enter in restaurant business with Dr.Handa [Paresh Rawal Again]. But little did he knew that once the work done Dr.Handa shows his real color and also Gogi sets another trap for Lucky. Does Lucky Survive the trap ? To know that check out the movie.

Story is very weak and simple without many twist and turns. But it’s the screenplay which keeps you watching this film. They way Lucky keeps doing his robberies, Conning, Outsmarting; etc is highly entertaining but at some time bit repetitive too. If only the script would had been tighter, especially in the second half where there is hardly any moment and towards the climax the movie falls flat. Locations of this film are superb, shot in total north Indian towns and cities. The dialect, looks, feel, etc everything is totaling real and raw which makes the movie quite interesting. Technical Values of the film are total rich and of top notch. Back ground music is superb and goes well with the feel of the film. The title work is superb and worth mentioning.

Dibakar Banerjee’s last work “Khosla Ka Ghosla” was a great film and people loved it as it had good script, Performances, humor, Down to earth characters and feel of North Indian family. In “Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye” he tries to get everything what he had in “K.K.G” minus the tight script. He has made this film with great technical values and it’s his direction along with the performance which holds you in the movie and makes it interesting. He has made the film with total detailing and small small factors are also taken care in the film. It’s just that if climax and script would have been bit more appealing the movie would have been a big winner like “K.K.G”.

Abhay Deol delivers this part with total ease and smile on his face. He suited the character perfectly thanks to his boy next door image. Neetu Chandra was ok as had small role. Paresh Rawal as Lucky’s Father, Gogi and Dr.Handa was superb. Manu Rishi gives an impressive performance. Archana Puran Singh was average. Rest all characters were less known but have done their part with total conviction.

So bol meri “Filmi Khopdi” is film mein kitna hai dum?

Dum hai accha khaasa dum hain, but script kaafi weak hain. Still the movie is worth a watch for its direction, Technical Values, Good Performance and the North Indian favor. Though nothing like “Khosla Ka Ghosla” but still has its own charm and may be luck by chance on that basis the movie might work on box office.
