    Among Irrfan's best performances

It is a biopic of Paan Singh Tomar, an Indian Athlete who turned a rebel (baaghi). Digmanshu Dhulia has brought to life a 7-time national steeplechase champion, who was forced to take up arm and become a "baaghi" (dakait to sirf parliament mei hote hai!) due to indifference of civilian administration and police towards his grievances. Irfan Khan as an army recruit, runner and "baaghi" looked very believable! He brought needed depth and intensity in the role. Everyone in film did justice to the role. Mahie Gill could have been better but she really didn't have much to do ... » read more

Watching paan singh tomar was like watching a sequel to virat kohli's knock a few days back.u know both have the potential to play a big knock but not sure if they can steal the show single handedly considering the circumstances.but once its over you leave your seats with the reassurance that true talent will shine, circumstances notwithstanding.coincidentally virat also came into bat to shut television sets(considering sachin and sehwag were out by then)just like this movie, running pretty much to empty halls...

paan singh tomar, arguably is irfan khan's best ... » read more

    Gold Medalist Baaghi

GoodMovie which proves you dont need all the showshine starcast to pull crowd.
Yesterday's Housefull show @ Kharghar Littleworld, and more than half full show @ Vashi proves it all.
Director Tigmanshu has done a fantastic job of restraining the typical melodrama from hindi movies.
Irfan undoubtedly proves his charishma, but the most perfect portrayed character is the 'Reporter' who comes for Paansingh's Interview.
Makeup man has done his job well Paansingh looks convincing in all the ages throughout the movie. Its worth the timespent. » read more

    Awesome Movie, Great Watch!

Paan Singh Tomar rating: 10 out of 10

This film will never represent India at the Oscars. But it should. It is the kind of film that has a fighting chance unlike the sap that Aamir and Sharukh churn out.

Tigmanshu Dhulia has gradually become a filmmaker I want to watch more often. The rawness of Haasil, the almost-Shakespearean Sahib Biwi Aur Gangster and now Paan Singh Tomar make a pretty powerful argument in his favor. This time round, he paints a beautiful portrait of a real India we don’t often see. It’s a simple enough premise– a small town journalist is summoned to meet with the dreaded dacoit ... » read more

    Palang Tod…

Paan Singh Tomar rating: 7 out of 10

‘Pan Singh Tomar’ starts with a shot containing a poster of Amitabh Bachchan’s Super Hit Dacoit drama – ‘Ganga Ki Saugandh’. Those were the times when Dacoit films in India were in their top form. Almost all top actors were doing a Dacoit drama or wanted to do one. Sunil Dutt provided us with classics like ‘Mother India’, ‘Mujhe Jeene Do’ & ‘Reshma Aur Shera’ and on other end Dilip Kumar made it large with ‘Ganga Jamuna’. Then there were loads of such films in the late 80’s containing Dharmendra and other action heroes followed by even heroine oriented films containing ... » read more

From a small town of Madhya Pradesh, rose an athlete who ruled the steeplechase event at the Indian National Games for 7 years in a row and whose record stood unbeaten for 10 years. His name was Paan Singh Tomar, but, his fame didn't stop there - he became even more famous or rather infamous when he gave up his running shoes and went on to become a 'Baaghi' and wreaked havoc in the Chambal Valley. Paan Singh Tomar is the true epic journey of a talented runner who turned into a rebel! » read more

Film: "Paan Singh Tomar"; Starring: Irrfan Khan, ; Directed by: Tigmanshu Dhulia; Rating: ****

Some films are meant to run that extra mile to go beyond being a mere cinematic experience. As we see names of real-life athletes who died unsung flash across the screen at the end of "Paan Singh Tomar" we realize what we've just witnessed in the past 190 minutes of taut playing-time is not just film. It's a treatise on what destiny has in store for people who do not conform to socially-acceptable definitions of success.
