Pahlaj Nihalani is a Hindi film producer since the 1980s. He has just completed 30 years in the film industry.

Nihalani produced his first film Haathkadi in 1982, starring Sanjeev Kumar, Shatrughan Sinha and Reena Roy. The movie did quite well. But Nihalani took a break before producing his next film.

Aandhi – Toofan (1985) was Nihalani’s second film. The movie starred Shatrughan Sinha and Hema Malini besides others. The movie didn’t really do well. His next film Ilzaam (1986), starring Govinda and Neelam Kothari, also wasn’t too impressive. Aag Hi Aag (1987), starring Dharmendra and Chunky Pandey, was Nihalani’s first hit. Gunahon Ka Faisla (1988) was okay, while Paap Ki Duniya (1988) was another hit. This helped strenghthening Nihalani’s position in the industry.

In 1989, Nihalani produced Mitti Aur Sona, starring Chunky Pandey and Neelam Kothari. The movie gained some success. The action flick Aag Ka Gola (1990), starring Sunny Deol and Dimple Kapadia, didn’t do too well. First Love Letter (1991), starring Vivek Mushran and Manisha Koirala, failed to do well. Nihalani’s next film Shola Aur Shabnam (1992), starring Govinda and Divya Bharati, was a big hit. Nihalani then produced the all-time blockbuster film Aankhen (1993), starring Govinda and Chunky Pandey. It was a great entertainer. Andaz (1994), starring Anil Kapoor and Juhi Chawla, couldn’t create any magic and earned a below average status at the box-office. In 1996, Nihalani produced Dil Tera Diwana, starring Saif Ali Khan and Twinkle Khanna. The movie was a failure. His next film Bhai Bhai (1997) also flopped badly. After a few years, Nihalani produced Uljhan (2001), which was also his directorial debut. The movie was another box-office failure. Nihalani’s last film was Talaash: the Hunt Begins in 2003, starring Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor. The movie unfortunately flopped.

Pahlaj Nihalani’s latest venture, Khushboo which featured debutantes Avantika and Rishi Rehan flopped very badly, but the music by Adnan Sami was appreciated. Nihalani has signed Patrik Vats, who wrote the dialogues for Sarfarosh and Qayamat, to write his next film, for which work is on at a brisk pace. It would be a hard-hitting film.

Nihalani recently made a special appearance in the film Halla Bol (2008).
