The story revolves around a girl Pampa. She lost her mother when she was an infant whereafter her fathe remarried. Her step mother was not too fond of her. Pampa was very naive and would often be the scapegoat for faults committed by others. She was however gifted with a melodious voice. Her father wanted her to learn music sincerely. But events took a bad turn when her step mother died in an accident. Her father was arrested and she took refuge with relatives. But when the villagers cautioned her that the police may even arrest her, she was frightened and fled from her relative's house and reached Kolkata. Being new to the city she was lost. There Binodbabu noticed her and with fatherly affection adopted her. He left her in the care of his mistress Bhramar, who also took an instant fondness for Pampa. After a few days she was taken to Binodbabu's house, where he lived with his widowed aunt, who though initially hostile towards Pampa was finally won over by the latter's singing prowess. Back at the village, Haranbabu, Pampa's father was released from jail and he was shell- shocked to find his daughter missing. He left for Kolkata in search of his daughter. Meanwhile Pampa got kidnapped by a bunch of goons though not for too long. The family in celebration threw a party where Pampa sang a song. She was overheard by Haran, who chancedwas passing by the house at that point of time. He was ecstatic to get his daughter back and they went back to the village. Binodbabu was heartbroken and fell ill. Bhramar set out for the village to bring Haranbabu and his daughter Pampa back to Kolkata after which they lived together as a family
