    Panchu Gopal Mukhopadhyay was a reputed writer in Bengali of what is commonly known as the "Kollol Era".He was born in 1910 and passed away untimely in 1957.His father, Pramathanath (who used "Bhattachrya" as his surname ), was a childhood friend of the legendary Bengali novelist Sarat Chandra Cattopadhyay and was one of the founders of the well-known Bengali publication "Bharatbarsha".Panchu Gopal had the opportunity to come in close contact with Sarat Chandra.

    A jornalist by profession, Panchu Gopal joined the Bengali daily "Dainik Basumati" and then moved on to "Jugantar".He also edited a monthly titled "Masikpatra".

    Panchugopal published several short stories in "Kollol" and other leading publications of the time. A collection of his short stories was published his death.He also wrote a number of novels, of which "Madan Bhasmer Por" was the most important.

    Many of his stories were made into films by eminent filmmakers such as Niren Lahiri and Bikash Roy.These include "Ratri", "Sadharan Meye", "Garabini" and "Ardhangini" ("Parivar" in Hindi). He also wrote a number of screenplays, including those for "Punarmilan","Baikanther Will", "Mahakal" and "Singhaduar".
