Pankaj Kapur is one of those very few actors who can switch over their mannerisms from one film to another. Pankaj Kapur is one of them . Pankaj Kapur was born in Ludhiana, Punjab. He studied Engineering in New Delhi. Though he ranked in the exams, he discarded the typed path of an engineer. His acting potentials were marked in the college drama. He was admitted in National School of Drama and finished his course in 1976. His debut was in the film "Arohan"(1982) dircted by Shyam Benegal. He chanced to act in Attenborough's "Gandhi"in the role of Pyarelal, the secretary to Gandhi. His articulatin was so striking that he dubbed Gandhi's dialogues in Hindi. There was a time when Pankaj Kapur was esteemed as the highest paid actor on television. His "Karamchand", in which he acts as a whimsical detective, became super hit. His role in "Jane Do Bhi yaro" was negatve but he was an apt choice for the role. In " Chameli ke Sadi" he delighted the audiences. In Roja Pankaj is the leader of an activist group. Here too his performances were noteworthy. He has been expoited to the fullest in "Ek Doctor ki Maut"('91) dircted by the late Tapan Sinha. The film was based on a real life story that deals with a doctor's confrontations against a section hailing from madical science who are trying tooth and nil to create impedicaments to his research . The way Pankaj blooms his annoyances , anxieties, disgusts and depairs in the teeth of man-made adversities are brilliant. He got natinal award for this film. In "Ek Ruka Hua Faisla"by Bsu Chatterjee, Pankaj played a delicate character who comes out to be the real culprit. In this film too he got the Natinal recognition. In "Maqbool" his role of Abbaji was remarkable . In this film too Pankaj bagged National award. In commercial movies too Pankaj is equally dexterous. Who can ever forget his complex characterisation in "Dus"? In "Halla Bol" his role was dominating.

Sahid Kapur is born of them. Their marriage broke off. Pankaj's second wife is the famous actress Supriya Pathak. "Sau Jhooti Ek Sach"(2004) was written by Pankaj himself.
