A movie about a village in India, Sir J.C. Roy wants to donate some money for the improvement of the villagers but the question that remains in his mind is that whom should he donate the money to, and how can it be used for the development of the villagers, so J.C. Roy decides to work as a postman in the village so as he can know more about the people in the village. He plans a plot in which a cheque is delivered on the name of the post master Nivaran (Nasir Hussain) for Rs. 5,00,000. In his confusion, the postmaster discloses the sum of money to the villagers. Some of the prominent villagers are stunned to hear that the most honest person in the village will get a sum of Rs, 5,00,000, so they act as if they are the most honest people around. A lot of changes start happening in the village. In the meanwhile, the postmaster's daughter Seema (Sadhana) is about to get married. Despite his many liabilities and a great need for money he doesn't accept the cheque of 5,00,000 and so there is an election for the honest man in the village. A lot of differences are created by the members who are standing in the election, fights happen and rifts are created. Sir J.C. Roy in the meanwhile discloses his identity and everything about the honest people are then revealed. Finally, J.C. Roy himself hands over the cheque of five lakhs to the post master and announces the marriage of Seema and the school master.
